Crawford County leaders and community members celebrated the completion of a new $1.6 million emergency dispatch center Friday morning. Since 2022, Van Buren, Alma and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers have all been located inside the county justice center, which includes the sheriff's office and detention center.

Keep Arkansas Beautiful launches 2024 Great Americ...

Keep Arkansas Beautiful is looking to eclipse its record-breaking 2023 year by collecting even more litter during the 2024 Great American Cleanup. In 2023, volunteers from each of Arkansas’ 75 counties collected over 630 tons of litter from across the state. Robyn Taylor, Volunteer Program Manager at Keep Arkansas Beautiful, says she is working to keep that energy going forward, but that litter prevention is key to keeping the state clean.

Fire and emergency responders grant now open for c...

On March 11, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced the opening of the Fiscal Year 2023 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program. With $360 million available, this funding opportunity will assist local fire departments and volunteer firefighter organizations in increasing or maintaining the number of trained firefighters protecting counties across the nation.

Craighead County makes large population gain...

Craighead County had more births than deaths between mid-2022 and July 1, 2023, the U.S. Census Bureau reported this week. That’s significant because 65 of Arkansas’ 75 counties recorded more deaths than births, and statewide, Arkansas had 907 more deaths than births during that time. Despite that, the state is believed to have gained 21,328 people through in-migration from other states and nations, putting the latest estimate at 3,067,732.

ArDOT to receive $91 million in federal funding fo...

The Arkansas Department of Transportation will receive an additional $91 million for six projects, according to a March 13th news release. The money comprises congressionally directed spending and community project funding.

ADEM conducts live solar eclipse exercise...

With less than a month remaining before the Great American Solar Eclipse, the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) took a significant step by conducting a live training exercise. This exercise was designed to test ADEM’s response to issues that may arise as visitors flock to Arkansas to witness the event. ADEM responders and other state agencies looked at possible scenarios, such as severe weather, traffic, medical emergencies and communication challenges.

We serve as the official voice for Arkansas counties. The overall purpose of the Association of Arkansas Counties (AAC) is to work for the improvement of county government in the state of Arkansas.
